McGLAMORY FAMILY CEMETERY This tiny family cemetery is situated in Cleveland County, N.C. in No. 11 Township three and a half miles west of Casar, N.C. at head of No Business Branch on a sharp ridge, being one half mile from road leading from Casar to Rutherford County, and on the lands of Mr. T. D. White. Owner of Cemetery: T. D. White Approximate number of marked graves: 1 Unmarked graves: 4 Earliest marked grave: G. O. Mc, d. June 21, 1845 General condition of cemetery: It is completely abandoned, being in the midst of a virgin forest. There is a large forked or twin Spanish oak at the foot of the marked grave. The native stones marking those graves are visible and unmolested. Date of survey and workers not listed. Inscription: G. O. Mc., d. June 21, 1845 (Mr. T. D. White, aged 54, says that his father, George White, always thought a McGlamory was buried here, and that this marked grave is that of G. O. McGlamory. Worker, Anson G. Melton.) This small family graveyard, nearly 100 years old, is within 300 yards of the home of Mr. T. D. White. This land, explained Mr. White, was originally owned by John Towery who took it up from the State. I understand that John Towery lived on this very spot where Mr. T. D. White now lives. Mr. White reported that John Towery was a postmaster of a post office conducted in his house called "Point." Part of the old desk is now is the possession of Mr. T. D. White. The desk was painted red, not now faded. It contains four shelves, one large drawer at bottom, and thirteen little boxes, evidently for letters, etc. It has double doors and is about 3 ½ high and 2 ½ feet wide. This little desk, the remains of Point Post Office, can be found on the back porch of Mr. T. D. White, who lives about 3 ½ miles west of Casar, N.C. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This cemetery is among the many Cleveland cemeteries included on the Cleveland Count WPA Cemeteries CD, copyrighted 2008, by Ann K.
