Owner of Cemetery: Will F. & Edgar Hamrick Marked graves; None Unmarked graves: 3 No early marked graves. Condition: The cemetery is in an open field and in cultivation. Date of survey: April 26, 1939 Workers: None listed "Mr. ____ McCurry, one time owned the land, was buried here many years ago, probably between 1820 and 1835. "Some few years prior to Civil War a slave Negro child owned by John Wright was burned to death and buried here. "Also, at close of Civil War said Andrew Peeler returned home with a fine mule, he had become attached to while serving as a waggoner for General Scales throughout the war. This Mule lived to be thirty years old and proved to be a good farm mule. Peeler wrapped the mule up in cloth and bed linen and buried it in this grave yard. He said that the mule "raised" his children, and that it should not be eaten by the buzzards! Also, none of these three graves were allowed to be disturbed or plowed over during the life of said Andrew Peeler. "According to tradition this land was originally taken up by William Magness, thence conveyed to said McCurry, thence William Wray thence John Wright, thence Andrew Peeler, thence to Bryan Gardner and Edger Hamrick, thence William F. & Edgar Hamrick. "The name of said mule was "Henry"! The reputation of this mule is today known by both old and young people of the community, and in this respect will probably live longer than many people." Data by P. Cleveland Gardner, who was born and reared on adjoining farm. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This cemetery is among the many Cleveland cemeteries included on the Cleveland Count WPA Cemeteries CD, copyrighted 2008, by Ann K.
