JOHN WARE, JR. CEMETERY Located in Cleveland County, N.C. in No. 4 Township, about 7 miles from Shelby, 300 feet north from Highway No. 54, ¾ mile east of Buffalo Creek, and about ¼ mile northeast of John Ware old log residence. It is on a slight knoll and is about ¼ mile from the old home of Jake Anthony, a pioneer settler (who married a Beam). B. Calvin Hamrick says there were formerly 30 or 40 graves here. Owner of Cemetery: Howard Herndon Number of marked graves: 4 Unmarked graves: 5 Before 1914: 4 After 1914: None Condition of cemetery: The cemetery is grown up in weeds with four or five cherry trees growing in it; but is preserved from the plow. The markers are small soapstone markers and almost hidden in the grass and weeds. Earliest marked grave: Sarah Ware, d. April 10, 1825 Date of survey: June 7, 1939 [Workers: None listed] Inscriptions: Ware, John D. June 8, 1842 Aged: 73 years Ware, Sarah D. April 10, 1825 Aged: 3 weeks Dillingham, Sarah G. D.
