JAMES BRIDGES CEMETERY The cemetery is located in No. 3 Township, Cleveland County, N.C. about ¾ mile north of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and situated on top of a hill with a commanding view of the surrounding territory. S. Collis Jones, aged 80 years, related to persons buried here, supplied us with information to the effect that Frank Young owned a large plantation in vicinity and that he had a large number of slaves buried to the rear of this cemetery, many of whom succumbed to an epidemic of typhoid fever. Also, he states that the mother of John Bunk Borders (prominent farmer near Patterson Springs) was buried here, being Glenn Border's first wife and the daughter of John L. Borders. Moreover, Mr. Jones says that this graveyard was named for James Bridges, who came to America from England before the Revolutionary War, married Rebecca Hamrick, daughter of George Hamrick; settled some hundred yards or more east of the cemetery, and had several sons in the Revolutionary War. Also, he was the first deacon in Buffalo Baptist Church. Owner of Cemetery: N. C. Joint Stock Land Bank of Durham, N.C.
