ANNA (HANNA) DEDMON GRAVE The Anna (Hanna) Dedmon Grave is located in No. 6 Township, Cleveland County, N.C. on her plantation ¼ mile south of Metcalf Station on Lawndale Ry., about one mile west of Zion Baptist Church. A large cedar tree stands at head of grave. There is no other grave. She requested to be buried here on her own land. Date of survey: Feb. 13, 1939 Worker: Anson G. Melton Anna Dedmon's maiden name was Miss Anna McEntire, and a sister of Bayard McEntire. She was married to Jess Dedmon, and the U.S. Census for Cleveland County of 1850 gives following data: Jess Dedmon, b. 1805 Anna Dedmon, b. 1806 Hezekiah Demon, b. 1837 Elizabeth Dedmon, b. 1844 Jess Dedmon was son of Mark Dedmon. According to data supplied by Veterans Administration, Washington, D.C., "Mark Dedmon was a Rev. War pensioner, Claim W.3960. Mark Dedmon was born Aug. 15, 1758 in Baltimore County, Maryland, and when a child, was taken to Rowan County, North Carolina; the name of his parents are not known. While a resident of Rowan County, N.C., Mark Dedmon enlisted Aug. 5, 1779, served three months in Captain Lions' Company, Colonel Locke's North Carolina Regiment and was at the taking of several Indian towns; he enlisted in the fall or winter of 1780, served in Captain Niten's and William Wilson's companies, under Major McDowell, in the N.C. Troops and was in the Battle of the Cowpens; he enlisted in 1781, and served three months in Captain Haden's and in Captain Niten's company of Calvary under Major Smith in the North Carolina Troops. In 1786, he moved to Greenville District, South Carolina, where he lived one year, then moved to Rutherford County, North Carolina, where he was residing when he was allowed pension on his application executed Sept. 12,1834; he was pensioned in name of "Mark Dedmon! He died March 23, 1839. "Mark Dedmon was married in 1784 or 1785, to Hanna, maiden name not known, and place not stated." "Hanna Dedman, widow of Mark Dedmon, was allowed a pension on application dated January 27, 1842, at which time she was a resident of Rutherford County, N,C., and gave her age as 76 years. In 1848, she stated that she was aged 84 years." The following data are shown-family data: "Polly Dedman, b. Nov. 13, 1786 Thomas Dedman, b. Jan. 15, 1788 William Dedman, b. Mar. 12, 1791 Sally Dedman, b. Sept. 29, 1793" Old land deeds show that Jacob Christman conveyed to Mark Dedman 100 acres of land on First Broad River adjoining lands of John McEntire Feb. 8, 1795. Mark Dedman settled in Zion Baptist Church community, No. 6 Township, Cleveland County (formerly Rutherford County), where he reared his family and died, and it is said that he was buried in said graveyard, namely that of Zion Baptist church, as that church was organized about 1814.
