BURL BLANTON GRAVEYARD [Handwritten notes: John Dalton graveyard instead of Burl. Incorrect, this is the John Blanton Cemetery. John was the son of Burwell Blanton, Rev. War Soldier b(uried) about a mile S.E.] This cemetery is situated in Cleveland County, N.C. in No. 2 Township 2 miles east of Boiling Springs on the lands of Prof. O. P. Hamrick, and is about 7 miles southwest of Shelby, about ½ mile south of Boiling Springs-Shelby Tar and Gravel road No. 84, ½ mile west of Beaver Dam Creek. It lies about 300 ft. north of the Burl Blanton old house still standing and apparently over 100 years old. The cemetery is about 60 feet square. Owner of Cemetery: Prof. O. P. Hamrick Number of marked graves: 5 Unmarked graves: 50 Earliest marked grave: T. B., d. Nov. 22, 1835 Condition: The cemetery is grown up in large bushes and is apparently abandoned. Date of survey: June 22, 1939 Inscriptions: S. B. DC. Feb. 5, 1849 Aged: 60 years, 2 months, 20 days (On native stone.) T. B. D. Nov. 22, 1835 (On an old native gray rock.) J. B. DC. 1847 (On an old native rock.) Blanton, Malinda D. Jan. 29, 1892 in her 67th years (On marble slab-broken down.) "She was a member of the M. E. Church and died in the faith." (According to E. W. T. Ledbetter, age 78, Malinda Blanton was an old maid sister of Burl Blanton, bachelor.) Justice, Nancy D. Feb. 29, 1848 in her 57th year (Soap stone marker.)
