BARTLETT CROWDER CEMETERY This cemetery is located in No. 8 Township, Cleveland County, NC on southwest side of First Broad River between Lawndale and Polkville, on west side of old Lincolnton-Rutherfordton State Coach road crossing at Lucus' Ford, and between home of the late Everett Crowder and that of his grandfather, Bartlett Crowder, and on a beautiful knoll overlooking First Broad River. Crowder Approximate number of marked graves: None Before 1914: None After 1914: None Unmarked graves: 14 Earliest marked grave: None General condition of cemetery: The cemetery is covered with woodbine with two mimosa trees and locusts growing thereon. It is therefore neglected. Date of survey: Jan. 10, 1939 Worker: Anson G. Melton There are about 14 unmarked graves in this cemetery-no marked graves. However, we have secured the following from P. Cleveland Gardner, Cleveland County Historian: "The following data given by W. Yancy Crowder of Shelby, N.C., age 78 years, and a grandson of Bartlett Crowder, to wit: "Names of person buried in graveyard: Bartlett Crowder, born about 1806, died about 1881. Polly Brumm Crowder, born 1805, died about 1869. She was a Miss Brumm, and some of her family are buried there. Following [the] death of Polly Brumm Crowder, her husband, Bartlett Crowder, married Barbery Spake Crowder, a widow of Pascal Crowder and mother of Dan Crowder. Bartlett Crowder was the son of Robert Crowder, Jr., William Crowder, Spencer Crowder, and Mike Crowder; and four daughters, Sarah Crowder married Goode Grigg, Mary Crowder married John Grigg, Fanny Crowder married J. C. (Coone) Peeler, and Eliza Crowder [married] John (Broozer) Peeler.
