This is just a short outline of things I have found.

Mial Scurlock & Sarah (Howard) Scurlock were in Halifax Co., VA before moving to Chatham Co., NC. abt 1771

Joseph Scurlock, son of Mial and Sarah. He married a Martha Sheppard. Martha died about 1794.

Joseph remarried and the family moved to Tipton Co. TN in 1826 and then moved to MS.

Joseph had another son Mial Jr. but, may not be by first wife.

Mial and Wm. came to TX in 1834.

Mial was killed at the Battle of the Alamo.

William Scurlock - b. Oct. 22, 1807 NC - d. 1885 TX

William received a 640 acre land grant in the Sabine Dist. in the Lobanella Creek, in the W. part of Sabine Dist. They lived in San Augustine and in 1835 they enlisted in the Texas Army of the Republic.

William was a Pvt. in Capt. Henry W. Augustine 's Co. and under Capt. Thomas Lewellyn.

Any descendants of these two men are eligible to join the "Daughters of the Republic of Texas"

I have some documents for proof of all this. I will try to get it linked to this page asap.

I am not related to this family, that I know of, but, have found them most everywhere my Chatham Co. families were.
