Abel Morgan joined the Union Army in the Civil War.. travelling all the way to Indiana to join the 12th
Regiment of Indiana Calvary Volunteers, Co. G, on December 15, 1963, in Michigan City, Indiana. He was
described as Five ft. 9 1/2 in. tall, dark complexion, grey eyes and black hair. He saw action in several battles being injured in TN and Vicksburg, MS.. His hip and leg was crushed leaving him crippled for the rest of his life, and he carried a ball under his shoulder blade and a bullet in this neck for the rest of his life and was disabled.. He was released from the hospital in Vicksburg, MS and discharged from the Army July 6, 1865.
He drew a pension for his service and a year before he died, he was blind.
