J Smith  7/27/98
I am looking for infromation about the BARBER family in Chatham Co.   My
ancestors, William BARBER, b. 1792 and Asa BARBER, b.1789 were from Chatham
Co., but have been unsuccessful in establishing this.  Asa BARBER stated in
the 1850 Mitchell Co., Ga. census that he was born in Chatham Co.  I
believe William and Asa to be brothers and think they are connected to Richard
BARBER, who went to Washington Co., Ga. after the Revolution.

POE, BROOKS, BRADFORD
JoAnn  7/15/98
I descend from Samuel and Mary Poe, Simon, Simon, Simon, Terry and into Cape Giradreau MO. Terry Poe married a Brook, and she's the one I am trying to track down. I know she was born in NC. In the probate records of Cape, there is a Robert Brooks naming a Mary Brook as an heir, so I am assuming that this Robert is her father.  I have heard a rumor or read, I should say, that one of the Simon Poe's was married to a Bradford.

PYLE, HALL,
Steve W. Beebe 7/15/98
I am a little new to Geneology and as you would expect got stuck in Chatham, Co.,  pretty early in the process.  My 4th great grandfather married a Mary Pyle, the daughter of Colonel Dr. John Pyle.  He was a Quaker and loyalist and moved from PA when it got hot from the British.  He landed an Edenton and moved west by pack mule with 11 kids a wife, and a couple of brothers (possibly)  to the Haw River area of what is now Chatham Co.  Since it was 1767 it would have been Orange County at that time.  Evenutally several of the Kids moved on to Christian, Co. KY.  I need help with the John Hall that Mary met in Chatham Co.  There are some Hall's with similar names in Orange Co. that showed up in the 1790 Census but I can't draw a connection.  Where would I find marriage records for the Old Orange County?  Are you aware of anyone working the Pyle or Hall line in present day Chatham?

PATTERSON
Doris F. Williams 7/15/98
I am researching the Gilbert PATTERSON family who lived in Chatham County from 1740--then known as Bladen Co, 1752, then Orange County, and Chatham County after it's formation.  Gilbert PATTERSON was granted a license to keep a ferry on Deep River in 1757.  Other water boundaries to his lands are: Cape Fear River and south side of the Haw River. Buffalo Creek, Big Branch of Patterson's Creek, Pretty Creek and Georges Creek.  Can someone familiar with Chatham County including the original boundaries tell me where these lands would have been located? Many. many thanks to you, Sue for your time and effort in making this page possible for the rest of us, Does your information list a place of burial for Gilbert PATTERSON, 24 September 1796 in Chatham County? Thank you.

EVANS, BROOKS, TEMPLE
Stefani Evans 7/11/98
I am looking for Thomas EVANS, Sr., who died in 1795 in Chatham Co.  His wife was Agnes, and that is all I know about both of them.  Their son, Thomas Evans, Jr. was born in NC 6-30-1770, possibly in Chatham Co.  He married Martha BROOKS, daughter of Thomas BROOKS (1743 to 7-31-1812) and Martha TEMPLE (1747 to 5-10-1844).  I have no date of marriage for Thomas EVANS, Jr. and Martha BROOKS, but Thomas BROOKS and Martha TEMPLE were married 8-20-1764. Her father was Samuel TEMPLE, who died in 1784 in Chatham County, but I have no record of her mother or if she had any siblings.  I would be grateful if you could help me with these dead ends I have come to.  Anything about Thomas EVANS, Sr., his wife Agnes, Thomas EVANS, Jr., Martha BROOKS, Thomas BROOKS, Martha TEMPLE, Samuel TEMPLE, his wife, and the parents of Thomas BROOKS would be most appreciated.  I realize I have asked a multitude of questions:  any information would be gratefully used, and would provide more leads.  Thank you so very much!
