1. Matthew WILSON Sr. was born on 18 Dec 1717, likely in Northern Ireland. He was buried in Robinson-Wilson Cem., W. Startown, NC. Matthew Wilson and wife, Charity, sailed for America in June, 1745, and settled in Pennsylvania. This was a popular location due to glowing reports of its economic, religious, and political freedom and fertile soil and healthful climate. Matthew and Charity were among those who migrated to North Carolina in 1752. On October 3, 1755, North Carolina Provincial Governor, Arthur Dobbs issued to Matthew Wilson land grant #239 for 510 acres of land in Anson County (Book #15, Page 109, File #1790). This land was located on the south side of the south fork of the Catawba River. This land is now in Catawba and Burke Counties. There Matthew and Charity lived and reared their six children.
