82. Edna HEFNER was born on 11 Apr 1903 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 19 May 2004 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina and was buried in Eastview Cemetery, Newton, North Carolina.

Her obituary read:
NEWTON - Edna Hefner Smyre, 101, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at her residence. Born April 11, 1903, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Isabel SIGMON Hefner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Arvil Smyre; five brothers, Robert Edgar Hefner, Ernest Oscar Hefner, James Harvey Hefner, Charles Jennings Hefner and John Daniel Hefner; and sisters, Mae Hefner Travis, Bertie Hefner Allen, Jessie Hefner Nail and Sallie Hefner York. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Ray Beal of the home; two grandsons, Glenn Beal and his fiancee, Elaine Hall, of Hickory and David Beal of Conover; a granddaughter, Maria Peeler and husband, Jeff, of Newton; two great-grandsons, Gregory Peeler of Newton and Jeremy Beal of Sherrills Ford; a great-granddaughter, Kristi Beal of Granite Falls; and a great-great-grandson, Kobi Beal of Granite Falls. Also, special caregiver, Nellie Salyers, survives. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Beth-Eden Lutheran Church in Newton. The Rev. Dr. Bill Mims Jr. and Vicar John Locke will officiate and burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers serving the family will be Joe Killian, Jack Gantt, David Darty, Gairl Barker, Jeremy Beal and Ed White. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Friday, May 21, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Beth-Eden Lutheran Church, 400 N. Main Ave., Newton, N.C. 28658, where she was a lifelong member, or to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
