PREFACE

One of the major projects of the North Carolina Confederate Centennial Commission during the four year centennial observance of the War between the States is the publication of a New Roster of North Carolina Troops. Towards this end, the Commission has employed Mr. Louis Manarin as Editor. Mr. Manarin, Associate editor of The Wartime Papers of R. E. Lee, and a PhD candidate at Duke University, is well qualified for this duty. The materials in this publication are the results of his preliminary research in the National Archives and are by no means complete. They are presented at this time, however, as an endeavor to assist the historian and genealogist in their quest for information on the men who fought for North Carolina and the Confederacy. Norman C. Larson, Executive Secretary
North Carolina Confederate Centennial Commission

Raleigh, NC, September, 1961
