1. Monroe Milton GABRIEL, eldest son of John Wilson and Harriett Caroline Sigman was born on 25 Jan 1842 in Lincoln (now Catawba) County, NC and died on 12 Feb 1906 in Catawba County. He was buried in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery, Terrell, NC. He married Elizabeth Victoria H. SHERRILL on 19 Sep 1865 in Catawba County, NC by J. A. Sherrill, Min.. Elizabeth Victoria H. SHERRILL (daughter of Elisha SHERRILL and Elizabeth "Betsey" MILLIGAN) was born on 19 Jul 1846 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 30 Mar 1923 in NC and was buried in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery, Terrell, NC. Monroe Milton GABRIEL and Elizabeth Victoria H. SHERRILL had the following children:

FISHER were married on 15 May 1889 in Catawba County, NC by Richard S. Webb, Min., at M. M. Gabriel's home. Witnesses were John Gabriel, Zennie Brotherton and Monroe Harwell. 12. Cleveland "Cleve" GABRIEL (Monroe Milton-1) was born on 4 Aug 1884 and died on 20 Dec 1951 in Catawba County, NC. He was buried in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery, Terrell, NC. He married Fannie K. SAUNDERS on 7 Dec 1909 in Monbo, Catawba County, NC by Rev. W. F. Elliott. Fannie K. SAUNDERS was born on 20 Aug 1887 and died on 6 May 1979 in Catawba County, NC. She was buried in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery, Terrell, NC.

14. Essie L. GABRIEL (Monroe Milton-1) was born in May 1888 in NC. She was married to Clarence West BROWN (son of Joseph Francis BROWN and Martha Ann Catherine SHERRILL) who was born on 1 Oct 1878.

GABRIEL, MONROE M., Sergeant - Co. K, 23rd Regiment, NC Troops. Resided in Catawba County and enlisted in Northampton County at age 20, June 22, 1861. Mustered in as Private and was promoted to Sergeant in May, 1862-August, 1863. Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, June 1, 1862, with a gunshot wound of the side. Place and date wounded not reported. Returned to duty on June 7, 1862. Wounded in the left leg at Malvern Hill, Virginia, July 1, 1862. Furloughed for thirty days on July 7, 1862. Returned to duty on an unspecified date. Wounded in the head and left shoulder and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 15-18, 1863. Paroled at Point Lookout on February 18, 1865, and transferred to Boulware's and Cox's Wharves, James River, Virginia, where he was received February 20-21, 1865, for exchange.


The Life of ABRAM ALBERTUS GABRIEL

Alexander Alonzo Gabriel, second eldest son of James Wilson and Harriett Caroline Sigman was was born on 4 Jan 1844 in Catawba County, North Carolina and died on 9 May 1864 in Spottsylvania Courthouse, Virginia.


The official CSA records read:

GABRIEL, A[lexander] ALONZO, Sergeant - Co. C, 28th Regiment, NC Troops (Beatties Ford Riflemen"). Born in Catawba County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Catawba County at age 18, March 15, 1862. Mustered in as Private. Captured at Hanover Court House, Virginia, May 27, 1862. Confined at Fort Monroe, Virginia, and at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor. Paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, where he was received July 12, 1862, for exchange. Declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing on August 5, 1862. Returned to duty prior to November 1. 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on January 1. 1863. Transferred to Company K, 23rd Regiment N.C. Troops (13th Regiment N+C. Volunteers), March 21, 1863. [NC Troops-A Roster 1861-1865 V8:143]

GABRIEL, A[lexander] ALONZO, Private - (Co. K 23rd Regiment, NC Troops.) Previously served as Sergeant in Company C, 28th Regiment N.C. Troops. Transferred to this company with the rank of Private on March 21, 1863. Present or accounted for until wounded in the back and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until paroled and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received August 1, 1863, for exchange. Returned to duty on August 22, 1863. Present or accounted for until killed at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 9, 1864. [NC Troops-A Roster 1861-1865 -V7:238 ]


 

The Family of ABRAM ALBERTUS GABRIEL

1. Abram Albertus GABRIEL was born on 27 Jun 1843 in Catawba County, North Carolina and died on 10 Oct 1935 in Iredell County, North Carolina. Abram Albertus GABRIEL and Zuella Elizabeth "Lizzie" MILLIGAN obtained a marriage license on 24 Feb 1866 in Catawba County. The actual marriage ceremony was performed 18 February 1866 by J. A. Sherrill, Min. Zuella Elizabeth "Lizzie" MILLIGAN (daughter of Gilbert Alexander MILLIGAN and Rebecca Cornelia MILLIGAN) was born on 15 Dec 1845 in Catawba County, North Carolina and died on 17 Apr 1922, probably in Mooresville, NC. She was buried in the unfenced Blue Door Cemetery (formerly known as the Vanderburg Cemetery), alongside Route 115 about 2.5 miles South of I-77, near the community once known as Shepherds.

5 iv. Infant child was stillborn on 16 Sep 1873 and is buried in The Old Sherrill Graveyard.

+6 v. Henry Madison GABRIEL (Abram Albertus-1) was born on 6 Dec 1874 in NC and died on 26 Dec 1948 in Catawba County, NC. He is buried in Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery. He and Bettie Irene SIGMON were married on 9 Jan 1898 in Catawba County, NC by D. P. Smith, J.P.. Bettie Irene SIGMON was born on 6 Dec 1874 in NC and died on 26 Dec 1948 in Catawba County, NC. 1. Harrison Sigmon GABRIEL was born on 15 May 1846 in Catawba County, North Carolina and died there on 28 Jan 1917. He was buried in Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery, Sherrills Ford, NC. He was married to Fannie L. JONES on 23 Nov 1870 in Catawba County, NC by J. A. Sherrill, Min.. Fannie L. JONES (daughter of Allen JONES and Jane JONES) was born on 22 Sep 1854 in NC and died on 27 May 1933 in NC. He was buried in Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery, Catawba Co., NC.
