Claude E. SHOOK and Ethel Carlton CARPENTER were married on 4 April 1943. Ethel Carlton CARPENTER, daughter of Clarence Edward CARPENTER and Cordie Nina YOUNT, was born on 18 March 1926 in Catawba County, North Carolina.1224,2928 She died on 25 December 2011 at the age of 85 in Lutheran Home West, Hickory, North Carolina. Her obituary appeared as follows: CLAREMONT - Ethel Carpenter Tucker, 85, of Claremont passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011 at Lutheran Home West in Hickory. Born March 18, 1926 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. Carpenter and Cordie Yount Carpenter. She was a seamstress in the furniture industry. Mrs. Tucker was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont where she served as President of the Altar Guild for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, "the real" George Tucker, and her first husband, Claude Shook of Hickory; sister, Doris Wagner and her husband, Winfred; brother, David Carpenter; and brother-in-law, W. A. "Dub" Hovis. Survivors include her sons, Clarence Eugene "Gene" Tucker and his wife, Nancy, of Valdese, Charles Tucker and his wife, Wanda, of Claremont, Keith Tucker and his wife, Susan, of Conover, and Scott Tucker and his wife, Shelia, of Hickory; sisters, Maxine Hovis of Shreveport, La., and Shirley Fisher and her husband, Clyde, of Claremont; brother, Jim Carpenter and his wife, Betty, of Claremont; grandchildren, David Tucker of Newton, Nikki Aiken of Claremont, Linsey Hudson of Valdese, Brice Hudson of Valdese, Jeremy Tucker of Newton, Wesley Tucker of Claremont, Cody Tucker of Claremont, Joshua Tucker of Charlotte, Justin Tucker of Charlotte, Season Tucker of Hickory, and Shea Tucker of Hickory; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont with the Rev. William Hollar and Joshua Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Born March 24, 1913 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late William Knox Carpenter and the late Perilee Hoke Carpenter. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont and member of the Ladies-Aid Society, Senior Citizens of Claremont, Garden Club of Claremont, and Piedmont Area Development Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Samuel Keisler; eight brothers, Larry, Harrell, Robert, Hoke, Henry Clay, Mack, Berman, and Herman Carpenter; and two sisters, Susie C. Little and Mary Carpenter. She is survived by: 2 Sons: Samuel R. Keisler and wife Anisa of White Marsh, VA, W. Fred Keisler and wife Constance of Conover; 2 Daughters: M. Henrietta Keisler of Claremont, Janie K. Moser and husband Kermit of Pinehurst ; Sister: Ernestine C. Morrow of Conover 2 Sisters-in-law: Martha P. Carpenter of Newton and Polly Keisler of Cary; 10 Grandchildren, 7 Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont with Pastor Gary Haddock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
