Betty Jane SIGMON was born on 6 February 1929 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 20 October 2011 at the age of 82 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hickory, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY Betty Jane Sigmon, 82, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Betty was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Catawba County, to the late Everette B. and Lela Simmons Sigmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. C. Sigmon; a brother, Gaither E. Sigmon; and a sister, Verna Mae Whitener. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA, and worked for 40 years for Ellis Hosiery Mill. Most recently, she worked in the deli of Lowes Foods. Surviving are her sons, Steve Sigmon and wife, Helen, of Conover, Timothy Sigmon and wife, Debbie, of Newton and Mark Sigmon of the home; granddaughters, Jenny Rickard and husband, Mark, of Iron Station, Emily Edwards and husband, Kevin, of Newton and Ashley Craig and husband, David, of Newton; grandsons, Kyle Sigmon of Conover and Matt Sig-mon and wife, Amanda, of Statesville; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Charles Everett Sigmon of Taylorsville. Services will be Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at 3 p.m., at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA, with the Rev. Richard Hites officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 23, from 2 until 3 p.m., at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA, 2259 12th. Verna Mae SIGMON was born on 4 November 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. She died on 22 September 2005 at the age of 74 in Pallative Care & Hospice of Catawba Valley, Newton, North Carolina. She was buried in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, NC. Her obituary appeared as follows: HICKORY - Verna Mae Sigmon Whitener, 74, of Fifty-fourth Avenue, NE, Hickory, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley following a brief illness. Born Nov. 4, 1930, in Catawba County, she was a daughter of the late Everett Buren and Lela Simmons Sigmon. A lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church-ELCA, she was a homemaker and registered nurse at the former Hickory Memorial Hospital. She was a graduate of The Catholic Mercy School of Nursing. She joined the Church Triumphant in heaven on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Ann Whitener. Survivors include her husband, Roy Lee Whitener of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Matthews of Hickory; a son, Douglas Lee Whitener and wife, Denise, of San Diego, Calif.; two granddaughters, Danielle Matthews of Hickory and Victoria Whitener of San Diego, Calif.; three grandsons, Ryan Matthews and Luke Matthews of Hickory and Keoni Whitener of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Betty Sigmon of Hickory; and a brother, Charles Sigmon of Taylorsville. The funeral service will be conducted by the Revs. Alice Johnson Curl and David Lohr at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephens Lutheran Church-ELCA. The Service of Holy Communion will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Don Dotson, Joel Barger, Steve Baker, Robbie Huffman, Ted Goins and Donald Bumgarner. Honorary pallbearers will be the Women of the ELCA from St. Stephens Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Church. The family will be in the chapel of the church from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
