Parents: The Reverend Polycarp C. Henkel and Rebecca (Fox) Henkel. and great-grandson of the Reverend Paul Henkel.
First Spouse/Marriage Date: Rebecca (Henkel) Henkel, daughter of Solomon D. Henkel: 1871. Children of First Marriage: Sallie, Alice, Beatrice, Tilden, Clinton, Roscoe. Herbert. George, Charles, Laura.
Second Spouse: Elizabeth (Vaughan) Henkel.
Child of Second Marriage: One son. License: Licensed 1863 by Tennessee Synod, but not ordained. Calls: St. Martin, Stanly County, 1865-67; Mt. Moriah. Rowan County. 1867-69.
Other: Treasurer, Tennessee Synod, 1867. After pastorate at Mt. Moriah. went to New Market, Va., and read law with Judge George R. Calvert and practiced law for about twenty years, serving in the Virginia Legislature. Left the Lutheran Church and became affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. Organized and served congregations in that church in Virginia, at Waynesboro, Basic City, Harrisonburg, Newport News, and Chatham from 1892-1914.
