His obituary read as follows: HICKORY - Mr. Gwyn Elmore Sigmon, 77, of 1705 Ninth Ave., NE, Hickory, died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, surrounded by the family, friends, stories and music that he loved so dearly. Mr. Sigmon was born July 20, 1928, the son of Clyde Bedford Sigmon and Ida Lucille Propst Sigmon. Following a long career as a photographer, he began a second career as a furniture repairman at Hickory Chair and Hickory Business Systems. He was a member of Millers Lutheran Church. Mr. Sigmon is survived by Jackie Cline Sigmon, his wife of 60 years; his daughter, Lynn Sigmon Foes and her husband, Arvin; his grandson, Thomas Andrew Dykers and his friend, Megan Randall; and a host of kin, friends, neighbors and co-workers across many miles. Funeral services will be held at Millers Lutheran Church on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Catawba Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers for the service will be Mr. Dan Cline, Mr. Jack Cline, Mr. Phillip Barkley, Mr. Randy Stallings, Mr. John Zuchowski and Mr. Bill Berry. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends may honor Mr. Sigmon with flowers or gifts to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658, or Millers Lutheran Church, 2280 Twelfth Ave., NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601.
