Her obituary read as follows: HICKORY — Lydia Henkel Eury, 84, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003. Born Nov. 11, 1918, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late O. Glen and Mildred Kincaid Henkel.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude H. Eury, brothers, Thomas Lee Henkel and O. Glen Henkel Jr., and sister, Margaret Elizabeth Henkel.
Survivors include a son, Claude Robert Eury; a daughter, Glenda Eury Howard; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy McGinnis Eury; grandchildren, Hope Barger and husband, Jerry Barger Jr., Kim Hemphill and husband, Toby Hemphill, Shannon Matthews and husband, Jereme Matthews, Mark Eury and wife, Amanda B. Eury and Brain Eury and wife, Amanda M. Eury; great-grandchildren, Lee and Dakota Barger, Mackenzie and Bailey Hemphill, Logan Matthews, Lauren Bailey and Ashley Eury; a sister-in-law, Peggy Henkel McGuire; nieces, Patty Henkel Wallace, Margaret "Bunny" Henkel Mahone; and a nephew, Thomas Lee Henkel Jr.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at 3 p.m. at the Oxford Baptist Church in Conover with Pastors Joel Frye and Mark Marshall officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mark Eury, Brian Eury, Lee Barger, Jerry Barger, Toby Hemphill and Jerome Matthews.
The family will receive friends at Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations today, Sept. 14, 2003, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
