CABARRUS COUNTY
Hello to all, I am Sharon Pierce,
your Cabarrus County host. After a couple of years of down time, I am
back to do whatever I can, to help in your search for your Roots.
If you have information that you would like to submit, questions about where
to go next in your research, comments or suggestions on how to improve this
site, please let me know.
I live in East Texas, but my Mother's
people settled in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus,
and Stanly Counties, around the time of the American Revolution. So
this county, and the surrounding areas are very important to my own research.
I research, Hartsell, Cline, Shuffert,
Lipe, Beaver, Misenheimer and other
collateral lines. So let's go searching.
Short History Of Cabarrus County, NC
Cabarrus County is located in the south central section of the state, and it is bordered by the North Carolina counties of Stanly, Union, Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Rowan.
Cabarrus County was formed in 1792 from part of Mecklenburg County. It was named in honor of Stephen Cabarrus of Edenton, who was a member of the North Carolina State Legislature several times, and Speaker of the House of Commons four times. In 1795 an act was passed naming commissioners to erect a courthouse on the land of Samuel Huie (Hughey) which had already been selected as a proper place for the county seat. They were ordered to lay out the town of Concord, which was incorporated in 1806.

Group Sheets for Cabarrus County
Cabarrus County was created
in 1792 from Mecklenburg County.
Mecklenburg County was created in 1763 from Anson County.
Anson County was created in 1750 from Bladen County.
Bladen County was created in 1734 from New Hanover County.
New Hanover County was created in 1729 from Craven County.
Craven County was created in 1705 from Bath County.

While European settlers were
not in the Cabarrus area before the middle 1700's,
it is still interesting to know the "administrative ancestry" of the area.
And it is good to remember that European settlers
were not the first human beings to live here.
