Lipe, Misenheimer, Cress, Winecoff

My ancestor Sophia Lipe (b. 1809) was the daughter of George Lipe (d. 1843) and Sarah Misenheimer. I was under the impression that Sarah was the daughter of Jacob Misenheimer, Jr. and Elizabeth Kress from Cabarrus County. Recently I have read that Jacob, Jr.'s daughter Sarah was born in 1792 and married George Winecoff in 1818. I would like to verify whether the information I have is correct and where the other information source was. I would like any information on either the Lipe or Misenheimer family. I will share. 1/98

Query: My husband's paternal 3rd great grandfather was Matthias SIDES, born in Stanly County, N.C. June 15,1821. He married Sarah BOST, born in North Carolina, county unknown at this time. They I suspect were married in Cabarrus County, N.C, in 1845, as that is where their first son, William was born. William served in the Civil War with Company C, 143rd Ill Infantry. He married Alice Wells, in Montgomery County, Il in 1876. Matthias and Sarah (Bost) Sides had the following children: Flora Robertson, William E. Sides, Adolphus Sides, Mrs. Lucinda Kerr, Mrs. William (Mary) Montgomery Gage, whose husband's 2nd great grandfather was a Captain in the Revolutionary War, Daniel Sides, Emanuel Sides, Mrs. Ida Deal, Mrs. Laura Raymer, Nettie Isaacs, and Emerson Sides. I possess a GAR Civil War reunion photo taken in 1880 with William Sides in the photo, as I also possess photos of all Matthias and Sarah's children. Matthias and Sarah (Bost)Sides settled in Montgomery County in 1848, established the first grist mill in Nokomis, Il, which caught fire in 1860. Matthias, Sarah and William Sides are buried in Nokomis, Il in Montgomery County! Any help on these two lines would be appreciated!

Smith, Barringer, Shinn, Little, Reed, Tucker
Submitted by: Jimmie Smith on Feb 22, 1998, 19:57.
Query: George SMITH, my gr gr gr grandfather )1764-185?), entered N.C.with his father,Henry SMITH (1741-1835), in 1769, settling in Surry county near Old Salem. Both George and Henry migrated to Cabarrus prior to 1790. George moved to Rowan county in the 1830-40 time period, appearing in the 1840 and 1850 Rowan census. Also, I have evidence that he appeared in Rowan court on February 12, 1852 to prove he was Henry's son. George disappears at this point. There is evidence that he was placed in a guradianship arrangement with his nephew, Jacob FAGGART, of Cabarrus, near the present St. Martin's Lutheran church on highway 200. Jacob FAGGART filed his final guardianship report in Cabarrus in 1869, probably being delayed by the War between the states, but did not indicate the circumstances of George SMITH'S death, its exact date, or his burial place. I am in possession of a letter written in 1929 by George's step grandson, Caleb Bost, that George SMITH lived past 100. Can anyone help me with the "blanks" in "elusive" George SMITH'S exact date of death and burial place?

Garman Shive
Submitted by: Dorothy Steers on Jun 2, 1998, 23:27.
Query: I am looking for names of the children of George GARMAN (b 1755-1774) and Michael GARMAN (b pre 1755) who are listed in the 1800 census of Cabarrus Co NC, both of whom have a female in the household which fits my Nancy GARMAN, b ca 1790. Also In that same census is Philip SHIVE whose son George was born in Mecklenburg Co NC (predecessor to Cabarrus) in 1784, so I know George SHIVE, too, was still in Cabarrus Co in 1800. By 1807 George SHIVE was in Cumberland Co KY. George married Nancy GARMAN sometime before 1810; they are in the 1810 Cumberland Co KY census. Nancy was b ca 1790, so she and George could have married before he left Cabarrus Co NC by 1807. I don't know where they married. (The early Cumberland Co KY marriage records do not exist). George is the only SHIVE in Cumberland Co KY, but, as there are many Garmans there, too, it occurred to me that perhaps George went to KY because the Garmans went, too. I am trying to find the parents of this Nancy GARMAN. If anyone can identify her I'll certainly appreciate hearing. Dorothy Donnell Steers 2 June 1998 at 10:25 p.m.

Smith
Submitted by: Don Smith on Jun 3, 1998, 19:35.
Query: SMITH: Serching for ancestors of Jacob Smith, born 21 Jan. 1796 in Cabarrus County, N.C. He died 9 July 1883. Married Leah Barringer Holton on 16 March 1820. They had seven children: Caleb, Valentine, Eliza Clementine, Jane Catherine, Nancy Caroline, Alfred Harris and Francis Marion. Have one family reference dated in 1929 which says his father was a George Smith. Family oral tradition is that Jacob was German and family came to Cabarrus County, N.C. by way of Pennsylvania and Virginia. Have located one record showing that a George Smith purchased 188 acres of land on Dutch Buffalo Creek (Near Mt. Pleasant) on Nov. 8, 1792. This was a German area of settlement and many other German families lived in the area. There is a notation that George "was late of Virginia." Any assistance would be appreciated.

Moore, White, Stegal,l Morrison, White
Submitted by: Pam Phillips on Jun 4, 1998, 04:23. E-mail: webpsalms@iname.com
Query: Searching for parents, sibling, any info even a tiny hint regarding two brothers: Asa MOORE b. NC ca 1815, and Andrew Jackson MOORE b. NC around 1812. Asa MOORE came to Nacogdoches, TX by 1845, may have been in Shelby Co, TX or elsewhere earlier. He married Elizabeth B. WHITE, dau. of Joel WHITE and Sarah (possibly BENTON???) in 1845. In the 1850 census, Sarah WHITE was living next door. Elizabeth WHITE's family came from Anson Co, NC. Andrew Jackson MOORE married Martha R. STEGALL, dau of Thomas STEGALL and Elizabeth VANN. They lived in the vicinity of what is now Cabarrus County, I believe. Martha had an older brother Jeremiah Green STEGALL who married Margaret Clementine MORRISON, dau of James MORRISON. Jeremiah and Margaret were married in Concord, NC and had several children there before moving to TN and then to Pontotoc, MS. Eventually, sometime after 1846, I think, Andrew Jackson MOORE and Martha R. STEGALL Moore and family also moved to Pontotoc, MS. Mention of WHITES, MORRISONS, STEGALLS is for reference: I am especially interested in ANY INFORMATION WHATSOEVER about the family of Asa MOORE and Andrew Jackson MOORE. Bible records, family stories, Andrew and "Patsy"'s marriage record, land transactions, wills, anything. Thanks in advance. Pam Phillips
