Burke County Genealogical Society Quarterly Meeting

Saturday, August 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm

Inside the lobby area of the Morganton Public Library

 204 S. King Street  Morganton, NC 28655

For our August Quarterly Meeting, we will not be having our regularly scheduled nightly meeting.  Instead, this year we are hosting a Hometown History & Heritage Fair on Saturday, August 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.  The event will be held inside the lobby area of the Morganton Public Library and is patterned after similar fairs that have seen much success in other Western North Carolina counties.  We have invited a variety of people to share their talents and knowledge at our Heritage Fair:  local authors, family historians, history & heritage groups, and local & regional museums.  We aim to foster an appreciation of our local heritage as we showcase the talents, historians, and history groups of our area.

Local authors include Patricia Cooper Baker, Larry Clark,  Louisa Emmons, Fred Epeley, Gretchen Griffith, Michael Hardy, Leslie McKesson, Helen Norman, and Pat Page. The Mountain Gateway Museum of Old Fort, the Waldensian Heritage Museum, Historic Burke Foundation, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Burke County Historical Society will also host booths.  We'll have people on hand to help locate land grants and view them on DeedMapper in the NC Room as well as answer on-the-spot look-ups on Ancestry.com.  In addition, some of our Genealogical Society members will show their family research and Society member, Don Stevenson, will display some of the amazing historical scale replica houses he has built.  We hope you will be able to drop in as well as invite your friends and family to attend.
