This indenture made this the first day of March one thousand eight hundred & fifty eight between Hugh Smith and his wife Elizabeth of the State of North Carolina & county of Brunswick of the first party and William T Sessions of the county of Columbus & state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred dollars to them the said Hugh Smith & wife Elizabeth Smith in hand paid by the said William T Sessions the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that before the insealing & delivery of these presents we the said Hugh Smith & wife Elizabeth hath bargained & sold conveyed & confirmed & by these presents doth bargain and sell convey and confirm unto the said William T Sessions a certain parcel of land lying and being in the county of Brunswick and state of North Carolina and on Colleys branch joining the land of Jordan Woolard & others. First piece being part of a 200 acre tract patented by Barringer Moore and on both sides of Colleys branch beginning at a pine on the south side of said branch and runs north 10 East 178.8 poles to a pine on the north side of said branch then North 72 West 178.8 poles to a pine then south 10 west 178.8 poles to a stake then south 72 East 178.8 poles to the beginning one hundred & sixty acres. Also one other piece beginning at a stake on the second line of the first tract and about 20 yards from the second corner and runs north 6 E 27 chains then south 82 west 10 chains south 61 west 5 chains thence south 32 west 5 chains thence south 46 west 14 chains then with the second line of the first tract to the beginning forty two acres. Also one other piece or parcel of land beginning at and on the second corner of the first tract and near Wollard corner and runs south 10 west 14 chains 6 1/4 links to a stake on a branch thence with said branch to the beginning containing five acres and including the house & improvements. To have & to have the said lands together with all appertenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said William T Sessions his heirs and assigns forever and we the said Hugh Smith and wife Elizabeth for themselves their heirs executors administrators & assigns unto the said William T Sessions his heirs executors administrators and assigns and we the said Hugh Smith and wife Elizabeth doth bind ourselves our heirs administrators & assigns to warrant and defend the aforesaid lands containing two hundred and ten acres more or less unto the said William J Sessions his heirs and assigns forever free & clear of all lawful claims or claims of any and all persons whatsoever in testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seal day & date above written.

Personally appeared before me RM Saunders one of the Judges of the superior court of law & equity for the state aforesaid on this the 13th day of October AD 1858 Elizabeth Smith one of the makers of the foregoing deed who acknowledged the same to be her act & deed for the purposes therein mentioned and when by me privately examined separate and apart from her husband touching her free & voluntary execution of said deed she declared on said examination that she freely & voluntarily executed it and now assents to the same without any compulsion coersion or restraint on the part of her husband let the same with this certificate be registered. At the same time & place personally appeared before me William W Smith one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing deed who being duly sworn proved the due execution & delivery of the foregoing deed by the said Hugh Smith & wife Elizabeth the grantors given under my hand this 12th day of October 1858.
