MCGS is for anyone with an interest in Bladen County’s history and genealogy. Also known as the mother county of NC, Bladen’s origin dates back to 1734.
The exclusive educational purposes of the group are to:
- Preserve the history of Bladen County and its families
- Foster and increase interest in Bladen County genealogy
- Provide a research center to collect, preserve, and disseminate information
- Hold meetings to present and exchange historical and genealogical information
The Mother County Genealogical Society meets February, April, June, August, October, and December on the 2nd Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Bladenboro Historical Building which is the old 2 story schoolhouse at the intersection of 131 and 410. Light refreshments are served and there is a different speaker for each meeting.

The Society keeps a database of all Bladen County families and adds to it on a daily basis. Several books have been published from this database using Family Tree Maker. If you are interested in purchasing a book, please contact Jason Bordeaux. Shipping is $5. You can also purchase books locally at the gift shop. It is on the lower level of the Bladenboro Historical Building (see above for address). Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4. They are also open daily from 10 to 2 except for the months of January and February.
