Mother County Genealogical Society

MCGS is for anyone with an interest in Bladen County’s history and genealogy. Also known as the mother county of NC, Bladen’s origin dates back to 1734.

The exclusive educational purposes of the group are to:

  • Preserve the history of Bladen County and its families
  • Foster and increase interest in Bladen County genealogy
  • Provide a research center to collect, preserve, and disseminate information
  • Hold meetings to present and exchange historical and genealogical information

The Mother County Genealogical Society meets February, April, June, August, October, and December on the 2nd Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Bladenboro Historical Building which is the old 2 story schoolhouse at the intersection of 131 and 410.  Light refreshments are served and there is a different speaker for each meeting.
