SLAVE POPULATION:
RESEARCH NOTES: I'm researching my African heritage. My gggrandfather was Abraham Newsome (I presume he took on his master's last name) b: April 1833 (or 1835) on the plantation; d: July 29, 1912 in Elgin IL. He was the husband of my gggrandmother, Lucy Rade b: 1826 in Roanoke VA; d: Jan 30, 1914 in Elgin IL. My gggrandfather arrived in Elgin about 1862 via Oil City PA . He was a former slave that was freed before the Civil War. He had a brother, Peter b: 1827 (on the plantation or Nov 1826 in Alabama; I have two different versions); d: April 23, 1902 in Elgin IL. All three are buried in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin IL. What information you can provide me about the plantation slave records (?) would be greatly appreciated. I have my gggrandfather's obituary & other info if need be. Submitted by: Stephen Blackwell
