Preserving Woodville's Heritage

Letter to Friends of Historic Woodville

December 10, 2013

Dear Woodville friends,

Each generation becomes less aware of Woodville's abundant  history.  The past  can only be  learned and appreciated   from what can be  discovered, saved, and made accessible. Otherwise, it is  lost, and forgotten forever. Woodville becomes an address where residents made their living, not their lives.

Discovered/Saved:  YES . Now stored, we have accumulated   200 years of our  once vibrant past  - documents and memorabilia of the  resolute families  who  built our homes, stores, schools,  churches, while making   significant contributions to the community, to  Bertie County, and to our state.

Accessible: NO.   While these  families' contributions    have  been somewhat documented in  rare books and ephemera  scattered in a few private hands, libraries, and churches, they are  unavailable in any one collection.

Solution:  Display  these  resources under one roof , the Sunday School Building of Grace Episcopal Church,   along   with artifacts  from  Woodville life  -  photos,  letters, documents,  books, Bibles,  portraits, memoirs,  maps, artifacts, toys,  late 1800s clothing/jewelry, old  household items, tributes, many  personal effects.   Having this central  location will ensure  our  children, grandchildren, and  future generations'  connection to  their past.

Needs: Funding to finish our history center!  We're almost there, lacking only ~$10,000. Please help us complete our  long envisioned project this year. In averaging the past 5 years' donations,   it will take another 10 years to fund this project,  unless we can engage more donors and more  funds now. Thank you for your gift*,  mailed to Historic Woodville,  address below.

Merry Christmas from Clara, Molly, and Claudia
