1755 List of Taxables
Beaufort County, NC
In this 1755 List of Taxables for Beaufort County, reseachers are
reminded that white males (males only) became taxables at age 16. Free
blacks, mulattoes and slaves became taxables at age 12, both male and
female. While some free blacks and mulattoes are identified, they are listed
under neither the "white"
nor "black" taxables, but under "total".
