Daughter of Dora Gulledge (1868-1932) and James Robert Tarlton (1861-1935). Dora was a daughter of William Hubbard "Bill" Gulledge and his second wife, Nancy "Puss" Williams. Nettie is said to have been in a buggy with her parents about 1909/1910, crossing Thompson Creek. The mule lost its footing, and they were swept away.
