Notes on some of the purchasers at the sale:

  • Widow was Jane (Holman?) Bentley
  • Elizabeth Bentley was Benjamin and Jane's daughter-in-law, she being Elizabeth Laws before marrying James Bentley 25 Feb 1804 in      Wilkes County NC. She filed for divorce against James Bentley in 1837 naming Sarah Fletcher as the reason and that he had taken up      with her and fathered a couple children by her. Divorce granted in 1841 Wilkes Co NC.
  • Joseph Campbell was Ben and Jane's son-in-law, he having married Catherine Bentley,
  • Bentley Harrison was Ben and Jane's grandson, son of Joseph and Drusilla (Bentley) Harrison.
  • Joseph Bentley was Ben and Jane's grandson, son of Moses and Mary Bentley. Joseph is buried in Bentley Cemetery west of Barrett      Mountain in Alexander Co., NC.
  • William Bentley, was a grandson of Ben and Jane Bentley; he either being the son of Squire and Sarah (Hines) Bentley, born in 1814; or      the son of James and Elizabeth (Laws) Bentley, born in 1823. I tend to think it was William, born in 1814, as he would have been older at      the time of the sale in 1839.
  • William Hines was a son-in-law of Ben and Jane Bentley, he having married their daughter Mary Bentley on 23 Sept 1797 in Iredell Co.      NC. Both William and Mary are buried in Hines Cemetery, Alexander Co., NC.
